Interview: Hack4DomesticViolence- Vibewire
We asked the project creators of Hack4DomesticViolence a few questions about the inspiration behind the project, the challenges and their insights in running a crowdfunding campaign. Here is what they had to say,
1.Where did you get the original inspiration for your project?
#Hack4DV is our second social impact Hackathon, following on from our successful first offering #Hack4homelessness in early this year in September.
Vibewire President, Gavin Heaton, has extensive experience in the Hackathon circuit. Hackathons are a great way of making significant change in a very short period of time! Many different corporates and community organisations can come together to share their knowledge and data for a common purpose.
2.What was the hardest aspect of starting a project?
The hardest aspect of starting a project like this is getting the word out! Attracting as many participants as possible and enough funding to make the event a reality.
3.Why did you decide to crowdfund?
As a method to generate funds to make our Hackathon a success.
4.What does ultimate success look like for you and your project?
We hope to meet our crowdfunding goal of $5,000 with only a few days to go so we can support the ideas that come out of the weekend and make them a reality. But either way the event will still be taking place this weekend at MnM Institute Sydney 8–10 December with registration here.
5.How are you keeping the momentum for your project going?
We have been keeping momentum for our project through our social channels on Facebook and Twitter (@vibewire) as well as on The Feed section of our website: https://vibewire.org/the-feed/
6. Why did you choose StartSomeGood as your partner?
Tom Dawkins StartSomeGood was the original founder of Vibewire — so it was a natural choice to use StartSomeGood as our crowdfunding platform.
7. What kind of support do you think that changemakers in your community need?
Mentorship and financial support e.g. grants, co-working space etc. It takes a lot of work to get ideas off the ground and young people need to be connected to the right people who share their common goal and believe in their project.
8. What would be your one piece of advice for people who want to make a positive impact?
Be persistent, keep drilling away and try to connect with the right people at Hackathon’s like #Hack4DV as well as through meetup groups like https://www.meetup.com/Young-Entrepreneurs-Sydney/
9. What are you enjoying the most about StartSomeGood?
StartSomeGood is a great platform for our Hackathons as it connects us to the right socially conscious crowd.
