StartSomeGood is hiring.

StartSomeGood exists to increase the pace of innovation for social change. We support grassroots innovators and social entrepreneurs around the world with fundraising tools, educational programs and funding opportunities, while on our agency side we support organizations looking to invest in social innovation, including businesses, foundations, city governments and accelerator programs.

StartSomeGood is a small global company, with co-founders based in Sydney and Seattle. We are inventors, technologists, entrepreneurs and changemakers. We are driven to inspire, unearth, skill-up and help launch emerging social innovators because we believe we have an urgent imperative to invent new ways of making a difference, to support the vulnerable, empower the disempowered and create a sustainable future. Our job is to be allies and catalysts for those innovators and changemakers, and to close the gap that exists between them and the capital and institutions who want to support them but don’t know how.

We are really proud of what we have created over the past five years.

● Our StartSomeGood.com platform has the highest project success rate in project crowdfunding, up to 400% higher than similar sites, and our projects have raised over $10M USD / $15M AUD to date;

● We pioneered a unique approach to match funding we call Crowdmatch, and have run Crowdmatch programs on behalf of partners including ING, The English Family Foundation, Travel Holdings Limited, The Mill House Accelerator, The City of Fremantle and others;

● Our API powers three partner websites including ING’s Dreamstarter site;

● Over three years the #StartingGood Social Enterprise Virtual Summit has grown into one of the biggest gatherings of aspiring and early-stage social entrepreneurs online, with 4,000 participants this year;

● We have delivered workshops, presentations and capacity-building programs in the USA, Canada, Scotland, Hong Kong, Singapore, Cambodia, Thailand, Slovenia and every state in Australia;

● Earlier this year we launched our first social enterprise design program, a ten-week online course which is about to graduate its first cohort of students and open up for cohort 2 enrolment.

We believe we are creating essential pieces of the emerging social enterprise and social innovation ecosystem.

But we need help.

While the pieces are great — they deliver amazing results and get great feedback — we need to fit them together better, to create a more beautiful, coherent (*cough*scalable*cough) picture.

Does this make us seem too desperate?

We need one or two operations and process leaders to join us, to help us better connect and operationalize these pieces so we can grow our community and our impact.

This could take the form of two, two day a week jobs — a Business Administrator and a Learning Programs Manager, or one four day a week (initially) job, who would be more than the sum of the parts of these two roles but take on a greater leadership role, joining CEO Tom Dawkins and CTO Renata van Diest on our leadership team as General Manager.

These positions can be anywhere in the world, but our preference is in or near the same time zones as Tom and Renata, with bonus points if you’re in or near Sydney or Seattle.

Roles, Summary:

Business Administrator, 2 days/week initially

Core Responsibilities: Payroll, accounts payable and receivable, managing our compliance calendar, managing service providers like accountants.

Must have: experience in business administration including account-keeping.

You are: detail-oriented, meticulous and reliable, but also flexible, entrepreneurial and passionate about social enterprise. Comfortable using business administration software like MYOB or Xero (which we use) and having the buck stop with you, you communicate openly and collaborate well with your teammates, even when wrangling them to follow the right process.

Learning Programs Manager, 2 days/week initially

Core Responsibilities: Manage our Good Hustle online course, including marketing, student enrolment and program delivery, Grow our community of associate coaches and oversee coaching and capacity-building program delivery.

Must have: experience in online sales, marketing or community management (1 out of 3 at a minimum, 3 out of 3 preferably).

You are: positive, customer-oriented and experienced at team leadership. You are a systems thinker who is comfortable getting your hands dirty in implementation. You are creative but also detail-oriented, able to design, explain and manage operational processes which help make us more effective and impactful. Able to manage several balls in the air simultaneously and stay cool under pressure. You are an experienced “good-enoughist”, not a perfectionist, and love the fast pace and ambitious culture of a social impact startup.

General Manager, 4 days/week initially

Core Responsibilities: The above and more. Business administration, learning programs and team-building. The right candidate would be an entrepreneurial leader with a focus on operations, people and scalable processes, ready to dig in and help us make an epic impact over the coming years. In recognition of this position comes with equity.

Must have: Experience in program and/or business management, leadership experience and a clear entrepreneurial streak.

You are: a process triple-threat. You can design, implement and manage effective business processes to help us better connect and scale our ecosystem. You must be that rare operations leader who can lead in wartime and peacetime, able to bring order to chaos through smart process and product design, but also to manage the routine, ensuring company hygiene and focus. You are positive, resilient and level-headed. You are passionate about using business to make a social impact and determined to use our talents to leave a legacy. You have a high tolerance for risk and uncertainty and laugh in the face of failure, always ready to pick yourself up and try again.
